History

X-ray Mineral Services Ltd (UK) was established in 1997 by Stephen Jones to provide specialised mineralogical and element data for the oil industry. The company specialised in the acquisition of high-quality mineralogical data from X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis and focused primarily on the oil and gas sector providing quantitative whole rock and clay fraction mineralogy data for rock characterisation and reservoir quality studies. The main objective for the business was to provide cost effective, high quality and consistent quantitative mineralogy data in commercial timeframes.

The company has since diversified and serves the geo-technical, mineral extraction, construction and geoscience research sectors. In 2019, X-ray Mineral Services joined the Hafren Group broadening its analytical services, capacity and consultancy capability and is a comprehensive geological and materials assessment centre.

The company strives for data excellence and is recognised as a global leader in the provision of mineralogical and elemental data to a wide range of clients. Its commitment to continuous improvement has led to two consecutive top ten placements for XRD analysis in the renowned Reynolds Cup competition. The company is also a long-standing participant of the GeoPT proficiency testing programme for the certification of new rock standard reference materials
